Who needs a reminder to "KISS"?
It doesn't matter how long you have been in the fitness game, sometimes we all need a friendly reminder to KISS. We've all heard the acronym for KISS, Keep It Simple Stupid. Sometimes we make things more difficult than they need to be, and that can throw us off track. While there are definitely some key points in both training and your nutrition that you simply cannot slack on, there will never be a substitute for effort.
Do not stress over the smaller things. As long as you are staying consistent with your meals and macros, don't waste time trying to think about the next best thing, or the new fad you saw on the internet. Stop trying to split hairs with your training program about what variation of tricep extension is best, or which complex carb is best. If you have been implementing any of the strategies I have been writing about, you should be tracking your workouts and nutrition, and will be able to know when it is time to change something. Just focus on training HARD and keep your nutrition CONSISTENT.
A testament to this is the adjustments I've had to make over the last 3 years. For so many years, I was training 6 days a week, averaging 2-2.5 each workout. Let round down to 12 hours a week. Fast forward to today, where my average training is anywhere between 50 to 75 minutes, 3, maybe 4 times a week. And almost every week one of those workouts are done at home where only have KBs up to 15lbs, a variety of bands and pull-up/push-up bar combo. My time and exercise selection is greatly limited compared to what it used to be. But, I make it work. With nearly only 1/3 of the time spent exercising as I used to, I am in better shape now. HOW? My workouts are basic, to the point, and I hit them with as much intensity as I can every single time, making sure I progress from my last session. I also do not stress over my food. I keep my macros per meal about the same, which allows for as much flexibility as I want daily. This allows me to put more focus during the day on other important tasks, such as family, work, and which Batman I am going to watch with my daughter when I get home.
Its not rocket science folks! Basics sometimes the basics are the best, and you will only get out what you put in! If I can do it, so can you!
